Mr Peter Khoo, 39, managing director said his house was broken into last August.
To gain entry, the burglars simply unscrewed the lock on the kitchen window's aluminum grille. Mr Khoo installed the grilles for a hefty $16,000.
The burglars left empty handed, but Mr Khoo does not want to risk getting robbed again, so he invested another $7,000 to install an alarm system. It was installed by Jin Jin Alarm technicians two weeks ago.
"It is a good investment as it lasts a lifetimee and doesn't spoil easily," he said.
He thinks that dogs are expensive to keep and does not trust security guards.
In fact, he said his neighbour has seven dogs yet none of them barked when his house was broken into.
Alarm system pays off for Peter
After one burglary early this year, Mr Peter Khoo was still able to celebrate the Lunar New Year in peace.

Mr Khoo, the managing director of a computer company said, "The director of Jin Jin, Mr Philip Tan himself attended to my problem and recommended a sophisticated alarm system that would take care of my security needs.
"He surveyed my home and placed infrared sensors at strategic locations in the house. My main concern was for the safety of my wife and maid who will be alone at home when i am away for business."
After the installation of the system, there were 3 more attempts during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
Added Mr Khoo, "The Police told me that the burglars tried to climb from the backyard, the water pipe and the toilet louvres. All 3 attempts were foiled when the alarm triggered off and that is proof enough for me that with the alarm system, there is no way for the burglars to enter without being detected." |
The Price Of Safety
All of Mr Peter Khoo's door and windows have vibration detectors on them.
He demonstrated their effectiveness by switching on the system and then opening the door. The alarm sounded immediately.
A few minutes later, his pager sounded, telling him that his house had been broken into.
Then a call came from the central monitoring system to check if it was a false alarm. If not, the Police will be notified immediately. Even if he was being held up, all he had to do is say certain words to alert the central monitoring system.
There is also a way of pressing the code on the control panel that switches off the alarm but notifies the police that he is in danger. Even if the electricity is cut off, the alarm still sounds. This is due to a backup electric supply that last for 12 hours. |

| Mr Khoo also has 3 infra-red detectors at strategic places to detect any slight movement of burglars who manage to get in without triggering the alarm.
Its effectiveness was proven when he forgot to turn off the system after demonstrationtion. Our movement across the hall was detected. Again the alarm went off. |
Investing $7000 in a alarm system was well worth the money for Mr Lim.
About a month ago, his house at Jalan Selamat was broken into and about $20,000 in cash and jewellery were stolen. There was no one at home because Mr Lim was attending his brother's wedding.
The thieves entered the house from the roof by climbing a swing in the front garden, and into the master bedroom through a bathroom window.
He said," We had sleepless nights after that. A friend recommended an alarm consultant company, Jin Jin to fix a complete alarm system that protects all entries into the house, including the bathroom windows and the roof."
"Now we can sleep in peace" he said
Mr Lim added that Jin Jin has technicians who provide round the clock back-up services. |
